The Rules to Being a Drummer
There are certain rules that drummers have set over the past few decades, and they are to be abided by. Drummers are very unique people, and their little constitution shall be respected, damnit!
As a drummer, you NEVER carry your own drumset. EVER. When you pack it up for traveling, you have other people carry it. Don't even attempt to carry the drum throne. Hire slaves if you must. But don't exert yourself. Might as well have others unpack it and set it up for you too - observe them carefully though, a drumset is a precious thing, and not to be harmed.
However, you NEVER let anyone else carry your sticks. Or your brushes, for that matter. Your sticks are your weapon, and you carry them with pride. No one is to touch those sticks without your permission.
When the drumset is set up, no one shall sit at the kit but the drummer. No one shall even touch the luxorious, delicate, black leather adorning the throne. The drum throne is NOT an extra place to sit when there's no room anywhere else - the drum throne is a sacred, sacred seat and is to be used only by the drummer using the kit. Failure to ask permission before coming within a 6-inch radius of the drumset is punishible by death.
While managing extension cords, patch cords, amps, etc., be EXTREMELY careful that no one bumps the drumset. If a cymbal so much as rattles, someone is going to have some explaining to do. If a cord gets wrapped around the legs of a drum or cymbal, someone better hope to god it's fixed before it's too late. Drummers are not to be electricuted. That's saved for the bassists and guitarists.
Any mistakes made by a drummer are not to be laughed at or ridiculed. The drummer is using all their limbs to make the music have some time and depth to it, unlike the others just using their hands and fingers. When you can play guitar with your toes, then you can tell the drummer how to enhance the phrase.
Drum solos are a must.
Jazz drummers may use traditional grip if they would like, however they will not be forced to. Whether or not they tilt the snare and floor tom is totally up to the drummer. Jazz drummers are some of the most talented people on earth, and their preferance of grips will be determined soley by them.
Drummers must learn how to twirl their sticks. It's impressive as hell.
Drummers may headbang upon will. When a drummer is getting into the music that much, it should be applauded, not discouraged.
